Matrimonio ad Assisi

You will spend a fine and peaceful time for your wedding in Assisi. This town is located in the beautiful central region of Umbria, a region called "the green heart of Italy", and was the birthplace of San Francesco (St. Francis), symbol of peace all over the world and patron saint of Italy, and of Santa Chiara (Saint Clare). A lot of tourist come here every year to get in touch with this "holy" village made of pink and pale-gray stone taken from the Monte Subasio and delimited by a valley with fields and olive groves. But walking through Assisi you will also walk through history: you'll discover its roman origins in the main square, where a portico belonging to an ancient Roman temple is still there. Medieval times take the lion's share. In this lovely resort you will find a lot of masterpieces of medieval art, such as the Basilica of San Francis and the paintings by Giotto, Cimabue, Simone Martini and Pietro Lorenzetti among others. Be amazed at the sight of this stunning church, frescoed in all its parts by some of the above mentioned artists. Divided in three parts, upper basilica, lower basilica, and the Saint's tomb, it is one one of the most important monuments of medieval Europe.

Catch your breath at the view of Assisi and its surrounding valley from Rocca Maggiore, a fortress standing on a rocky hilltop: one of the best places for your wedding pictures.

Then, if you come from L.A. and would like to find out where the city took its name, you must go to The Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli: this is a place where St. Francis lived, worked and died. The church stands at the foot of Assisi, just 5 kilometers from the centre of the town, and boasts a fine collection of paintings by Andrea Della Robbia and frescos in the subterranean "Cappella della Porziuncola". Then you will behold the Basilica di Santa Chiara, a gothic building, is another magnificent church with its distinctive two-coloured façade, the Duomo with its museum containing other frescos, a gothic shrine of the Wood of the Cross and a primitive crypt.

You and your guests will be delighted by all these sights, the ideal scenery for your nuptial times. Strolling through Assisi's narrow and meandering alleyways you will of course stop and visit the various artisan shop or, if you are keen on delicatessen, the natural product shops will offer you some of the best wines, truffles, patés and herbs you will ever find.

Assisi is the perfect place if you are looking for peace and spirituality: your marriage will benefit from this awesome ambience.
