As most of you may know, Verona is one of the most romantic cities in the whole world, so why don’t you choose this destination for the most important day of your lives? Situated in the North-East of Italy, not far from Venice, Verona is a magical place, where medieval palaces bring you back in time… Of course the most famous monument present in Verona is the majestic Arena, the third largest Roman amphitheatre in existence, built in pink-marble stone in I A.C., and still used during the summer for concerts (especially opera, but also rock ones every now and then). The Arena di Verona is situated in Piazza Bra, the lovely centre of this town. From here you can take a walk through the smart Via Mazzini and then visit the medieval Piazza delle Erbe, where an open air market which is held everyday.
Just a block away then you will find La Casa di Giulietta, the legendary Juliet from Shakespeare’s play “Romeo and Juliet” (although Shakespeare was inspired by a long poem by Arthur Brooke); everybody knows the story of the two lovers alienated by the feud between their families (Montecchi e Cappelletti). A quite romantic place indeed, where you may renew your marriage vows. But there’s a lot more to see in the centre of Verona: the Duomo, S. Zeno Maggiore, another significant church situated in a very silent square, the Castelvecchio, a fortress once residence to the Scaligeri family who ruled this city in medieval times (now housing the Civico Museo d’Arte, a museum where you will find works by important Venetian artists from the past); the crenelated ponte Scaligero, grandiosely stepping over the Adige river, which cuts the city in two with its serpentine, just like the Thames does in London. Verona is a superb place for your wedding! Not very far from the city you will also hit upon the Garda Lake (the largest in Italy), a marvellous setting for your pictures, where the vegetation is still Mediterranean with palms, lemon, cedar and olive trees. And the many towns along the lake’s shore are so nice you have to pay a visit to some of them: Peschiera del Garda, Lasize, Bardolino among others. And don’t forget about the delicious wines produced around here: they are a must for your wedding reception!
